Meet the Committee - Lesley Higgins

Despite having ridden since a child and taught riders and trained horses for over 20 years, (now I feel old), I have actually no idea what the meaning behind the term 'classical riding' is.  It does seem to be totally open to interpretation and carry a certain air of mystique about it.  Sometimes I think that 'classical' is just a term adopted by writers or instructors to give their ideas and methods a greater impression of expertise.

The closest I can get to a definition myself is that classical horsemanship should never be forced or go against nature, but goes alongside and can sometimes even enhance nature.  I don't know, but I would be interested to hear other views.  I do know that the more I learn about horses, the more I realise that I have yet to learn - humbling thoughts."
